What do I do to improve my confidence to talk to girls?

I seem to have a problem if someone is with me to talk to them or the girl is in a crowd with someone. Also, what if I talk to the girl and I don't seem to like her? How do I get out of it, without hurting her?What do I do to improve my confidence to talk to girls?
